STRAWBERRY FAIRE 2008

8

A great day for Co.B of The Virginia Scots Guards.

In spite of the oppressive heat and humidity, the band received rave reviews for our stage performance and several walk-abouts.

We have already been contacted by the music director and chief organizer of the Strawberry Festival requesting a return visit by the Scots Guards in 2009.  If we keep growing at this rate, we’ll need two tents spaces next year.

The day was a financial success, with record C/D sales and donations.

The Field Marshall gives a wave of his baton to:

The entire band, you looked and sounded great, well done by all, especially our newest performers, Bonnie, Brandon and Heather.

P/M for his usual skill in tuning the pipes, they we’re singing.

D/M Porter for his outstanding appearance and demeanor and smartly moving the band about throughout the day.

Aaron Hill for his piping and wonderfully entertaining renditions of “Wild Rover” his lead singing, with the band joining in on the chorus has turned out to be a crowd favorite and is in our mix as we become the premier performnce band in Virginia.  By the way, the Wild Rover rendition was the Field Marshall’s idea, which is why I am the Field Marshall.

To Ryan Haddox, who has become a very skilled competition piper, his solo of “Banjo Breakdown” was teriffic, under the correct instruction he has become a very technical p[per who has memorized over 100 songs, amazing!

To Will Howe, our assistant drum major in training, for his enthusiasm and support, Will is recently returned from an Army tour in the Middle East and it’s great to have him with us.

To our friends at the St Andrews Society of Richmond for the friendship and support.

A great day, lots of fun and sweatin to the oldies (Celtic of course)
